Vacations are a funny thing. You marvel at the things you see, the places you go. But for me, there’s always a little voice that breaks through every now and again saying something like “are we almost done?”.
We’ve spent that past day and a half in Jasper. The widespread devastation from last year’s wildfires is devastating to see. Though intellectually, I under the whole circle of life aspect of it, it is still stark to see. Charred timber, trees still standing but showing evidence of sap boiling and exploding to the surface, trees uprooted and laying with large rocks bound up in the roots. And yet, the new is emerging.
As it should.
As it does.
Today we start the move back a bit south, stopping at the icefields and walking on the glacier which is the source of the river we rafted on yesterday. More circle of life stuff. It isn’t all dark
